Privacy policy

Salt Lake Monthly is run by Cale Cromar in Murray, Utah.
What I collect. Your name, email, mailing address, order history, and anything you email me. Shopify processes your card, and I never see it. As you browse, cookies and tags from Shopify, Meta and Google record the pages you view, your device, your rough location and which ad sent you.
Why. To mail you the paper, send receipts and subscription notices, answer you, and see which ads work. News about the paper goes only to people who ticked that box at checkout, with an unsubscribe link every time.
Ads. The Meta pixel and the Google Ads tag tell Meta and Google when someone visits or buys. When you buy, Shopify also sends Meta your order details and your name, email, phone and location from its servers, so Meta can tell whether an ad led to the sale. Ad companies, including Meta and Google, may then use cookies to show my ads on other sites based on your visits here. Both use this under their own privacy policies.
Opting out. Use the "Your privacy choices" link at the bottom of this site. A Global Privacy Control signal counts too. The site doesn't respond to Do Not Track. Or turn off "Your activity off Meta technologies" in Meta's Accounts Center, change Google's ad settings at https://www.google.com/settings/ads, use https://www.aboutads.info/choices for other ad companies, or block third-party cookies.
Who else gets it. I never sell or rent my mailing list. Some state laws count ad tags as "selling" data, so there's an opt-out. Shopify hosts the store and gets your information. It may combine it with other stores' data for its own services, including ads (see Shopify's privacy policy at https://www.shopify.com/legal/privacy/app-users). Otherwise it goes only to my email host, a printer or mailer if I use one (name and address only), and anyone the law requires. If the business becomes an LLC or changes owners, your information goes with it.
Your choices. Email me to get, correct or delete your information. I'll do it within 30 days. Deleting it cancels your subscription. Order records stay at least 3 years, as tax and subscription laws require.
Kids. The paper isn't for children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes. Updates change the date at the top. Big ones get an email to subscribers first.
